Most cycling events are tied to a single organization. When the organization goes away, the event goes with it. The Hancock Horizontal Hundred almost followed that pattern.
The End of an Era
The Hancock Handlebars Bicycle Club was the kind of cycling organization that most communities wish they had. On December 31, 2020, they permanently closed. All remaining funds went to the Hancock Parks Bicycling Fund.
The HHH went quiet. 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 — no ride.
A Different Kind of Organization
Making Miles Matter didn't start as an HHH revival project. The nonprofit was founded with a broader mission: cycling access, safety, and community wellness throughout Northwest Ohio.
But the HHH was the anchor. Reviving the ride was about reconnecting with something the community recognized and valued.
What Stayed the Same
Flat routes. Full support. Multiple distances. Community atmosphere. These aren't just traditions — they're the identity of the event.
What's New
A nonprofit mission behind every registration. A Legacy Leaderboard tracking miles back to 1974. An expanded event calendar including the Findlay Further Fondo, Wheels & Reels film nights, and weekly shop rides.
New steward. Same roads. Still horizontal.
